TRUE WORSHIP
TRUE WORSHIP
In this study, we would be looking at how we can bring down the presence of God in our personal time with him.
God is ever available to as many that seek Him, but we have to know the right way to approach Him in prayers, worship and waiting on Him so our services won't be mere exercises.
"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24 KJV
To worship God means to reverence Him, to honour Him, to pay homage to Him, to recognize His supremacy and sovereignty, it can be in songs, words, sacrificial works etc
A true worship is such that comes from the sincerity of the heart. God isn't moved with the melody in songs, neither with the sweet voice, but the heart from which such worship proceeds from. There is no action that is carried out without an intention. When the intention is to gratify the flesh, then it is false, canal or hypocrisy but when it comes with the right motive (i.e. to honour God), then it is a true and honourable worship, acceptable by God.
People have various motives for worshipping God which include to showoff, to be seen as being religious, to present oneself better than the others, and many more canal reasons. These may be voluntarily or even in voluntarily. But to worship God is truth means with a sincere motive and understanding that only Him deserves to be worshipped.
"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." Matthew 6:5 KJV
Any service (in prayer, praises, giving,) rendered to God with the intention of being seen by men to be righteous or holy is hypocritical and cannot be accepted, neither can such bring down the presence of God. The intention is to be seen of men and that is granted already because the intention has been fulfilled. Don't take your worship to God (especially in songs) as an audition for men's approval and favour, God is not in such. True worship comes with a godly and divine motive.
To bring down the presence of God, we must worship in spirit and in truth. We shouldn't just worship God with our body (i.e. limiting it to our hands, mouth, body), not just to out minds ( i.e. being emotional with the melody), but must come from our spirit. Spiritual worship is the key.
"But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel." Psalms 22:3 KJV
God inhabits the praises of His children. God Himself comes down when His people worship him truthfully and with their spirit. Let your praises to God comes your spirit, God is spirit, it takes the spirit to communicate with the spirit because the flesh cannot understand the things of the spirit.
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV
God is not confined in location, we are his temple, his habitation. We are God's mobile altars because we carry His spirit everywhere we go. We must connect to Him in the spirit for us to see His glory. If we can open our heart and worship him in spirit and in truth, He will come down and inhabit our praise.
