HOW TO STUDY THE WORD
HOW TO STUDY THE WORD (1)
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
The word of God is not some novels or literature books, It is the given to us as the manual of the new life in Christ Jesus. Just like the manual of a new television set is essential to how it can be optimized by the user, the word of God is a guide, the manual of life. I have discovered four ways in which people study the word based on the mindset to which they approach the scripture. Each have some benefits but are limited in their insufficiency to gain access to be power in the word to create desired results.
1. STUDYING (READING) THROUGH
This approach comes to play with the intention to just read the bible or meet a target or plan stipulated for a particular period of time. Reading the scripture limits the reader to a surface understanding of the word, which fades away over time. 'Reading' the word is beneficial in the area of speed but the reader have no access to the deep secrets and revelation of the word. One who reads the scripture has no access to the power embedded in the word. Such approach doesn't build faith because the word isn't retained in them. Readers often complain that the scripture is boring, complicated or bulky, that's because they care much about the volume or quantity of what they read or want to read but don't care about the power in the word to bring into manifestation what is desired.
One who reads doesn't give the Holy spirit opportunity to reveal, readers totally shut the door of their mind off the Holy spirit. If you don't give Him His place, He will not be able to carry out His duty. The word of God is more than what you read, open your heart and allow the Holy spirit to flood your heart with the light in the word. Give Him his place in your study, be the student, let Him be the teacher because He surely is.
2. STUDYING TO KNOW
This approach comes to play with the intention to just acquire knowledge. They study the word only to know what the word says. This approach is beneficial because knowledge is very important. Knowledge is the cure for ignorance. Knowledge itself is a type of deliverance on its own. The day you know who you really are in Christ, that day, you receive deliverance from the deceits of the devil. But this approach is limited because it can limit a believer to mere hunger for knowledge and revelation without result. Many are hearers or studiers of the word but not doers of the word. Many knows many verses but are still ignorant of the power embedded in the verses.
"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."
John 5:39-40 NIV
Many study the scripture diligently, studying history and theology with it, but still struggle when it comes to applying and obeying what the scripture says. Just like the saying,' WISDOM IS THE APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE', but when one who has knowledge refuse to apply it, isn't that foolishness?
The limitation of this approach is that it denies the power of the word of God, indirectly making God to be a liar. They study, but they don't do what the word says, and because they don't do what the word says, the word and all the promises of God isn't seen in their life. The world must see your God in you, they must see what serving Him has done for you, and this can only be when you are a doer of the word.
When you study to boast, you might believe the word, but you are denying the power in it. The scripture is like a rock filled with honey, why dig deep when you don't want to have a taste of the honey
.......GOD BLESS YOU
