THE HEART OF COMPASSION
THE HEART OF COMPASSION
"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Colossians 3:12 NIV
According to the dictionary, compassion means a deep awareness of the suffering of another, coupled with the wish to relieve them of it. it means feeling the pain of others, putting yourself in the shoes of those who are grieving, mourning or suffering and a great desire to see them relieved. It is a feeling of concern for the broken hearted, those wonded and those in captivity.
"When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” Luke 7:13-15 NIV
The earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus was filled with compassion. Compassion always precedes His miracles, His compassion for the oppressed preceded every miracle He performed. Many today desire anointing, power and gifts but don't receive, Lack of compassion for the victims might be the missing piece. It is when you have compassion for those suffering, in captivity or oppressed that you can be entrusted with the power to deliver. When you feel their pain and know what they are going through, then you can arise in intercession for them before the Lord.
"If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?" 1 John 3:17 NIV
Where is the compassion for the needy? God has blessed us so much that He has enable us to help those in need around us. Are we living up to His expectation for our lives? Do we ignore the needy since it is not our business? Then can we say we are worthy of God's blessing when others cannot benefit from it? who are we showing Christ to be to the world, being His ambassadors, who are we showing Christ to be even to the new converts and young believers? Do we ignore the cries of the widows and needy and expect God to hear our cries? We need to retrace our steps to where we have fallen short and seek the face of the Lord for mercy.
"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." Matthew 5:7 NIV
When we see the sufferings of the people as the punishment of their sins, are we really walking in compassion?
Where is our compassion for the perishing souls?
when was the last time we interceded for the lost souls and backsliders, when we hear the story of the fervent brother that made a mistake and fell, do we judge, even join the train of gossipers to spread the news, or do we stand in the gap in prayer for Him. 'Lord! restore your son, Lord! this brother must not go, the devil must not win over this one, restore him Lord!', when last had these words ever proceeded from our mouth?
"Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2 KJV
