COMPONENTS OF UNFRUITFUL GIVING (2)
2. The seed
Have you wondered why Cain's offering was rejected but Abel's offering was accepted? It was because Cain gave just for giving sake, there was no honour for God in his offering, his offering didn't cost him anything, but Abel honoured God by giving the fattest of the first born of his flocks, he gave with the mindset of honouring the Almighty God and God had respect on his offering.
"But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully." 2 Corinthians 9:6 KJV
The quality of the seed is another factor that affect the quality of the harvest. The bible says when you sow sparingly, you reap sparingly, when you sow bountifully, you reap bountifully. The quality of the seed you sow will affect the harvest.
"But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others." Mark 12:42-43 NIV
From the passage above, many rich men gave large amount as offering unto God out of their wealth, but this poor widow gave only two copper coin, and Jesus regarded her to have given the best compared to others, her offering was accepted by the Lord. What is it about the offering that made it surpassed those that gave more, because she gave her all. Out of her poverty, she gave all she had. That is a quality offering. Whatever you give unto God, your money, your time, your service, its not about how much or large it is, it is about how much it costs you. Let your seed be sown out of honour, love and sacrifice to God
"And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son." 1 Kings 17:12-13 KJV
Remember the widow of Zarephath? The prophet told her to make cake for him even out of the little she was planning for herself and her son as their last meal, even from the little that wasn't even enough, what quantity of food can two sticks prepare if not extremely small? but even in that little, she honoured the prophet of God. That offering was accepted by God and the widow never lacked again. The harvest of her good deep was plenteous because her seed was sacrificial. She gave to God what cost her so much.
"...neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. " 2 Samuel 24:24 KJV
King David wasn't willing to offer God anything that won't cost him, because he knew the role of sacrifice in a fruitful offering to God. Don't give God what is not wanted or what will not cost you, God is seeking for the sacrifice in your offering. Dont just give but give what will cost you. Sacrifice your money, your time, your intellect, your strength, your all for him, and be rest assured your harvest will be bountiful.
'Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit." John 12:24 KJV
A seed in the hand cannot germinate and bare fruit, it is the seed that is casted into the soil that germinates and produce fruits. It is what you give a way that will yield more fruit unto you. What you withhold doesn't yield harvest, it is what you give away that brings harvest.
