WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

‘Walking’ here means ‘Living’

Walking in the spirit  means:

·        Walking in the consciousness of God’s life (the eternal life) in you

·        Walking in the consciousness of being a spirit because God (our father) is a spirit

·        Walking in the consciousness of being a child of God

·        Walking in the supernatural life God has given to us

What then is the purpose of walking in the spirit?

There are many benefits of walking in the spirit but the major one is victory over the flesh

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Gal. 5:16 KJV

Walking in the spirit gives us complete dominion over the flesh. The more we walk in the spirit, we get further away from the flesh, and the more we walk in the flesh, we get further away from the spirit

“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” Gal. 5:17 KJV

How then can we walk in the spirit?

·        By Mortifying/Killing the works/acts of the flesh.

“⁵ Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. ⁶ Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.^{[a] 7} You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. ⁸ But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. ⁹ Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices ¹⁰ and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Col. 3:5-10 NIV

·        Begin to manifest the fruits of the spirit

“²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” Gal. 5:22-23 NIV

·        Let you heart, desire, aspirations, passion, affections be on the heavenly things

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ² Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” Col. 3:1-3 NIV

·        Study the word of God with an open heart

“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Col 3:16 NIV

·        Walk in love by the help of the Holyspirit

“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”Rom 5:5 KJV

“Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”Gal. 5:26 KJV

“¹² Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ¹³ Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ¹⁴ And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.“ Col. 3:12-15 NIV

Remember;
