THE GIFT OF WORKING OF MIRACLES
According to the dictionary, a miracle is a wonderful event occurring in the physical world attributed to supernatural powers. It occur when a fortunate outcome prevails despite overwhelming odds against it.
Miracle is simply doing what is termed impossible to the ability and wisdom of men, reversing the irreversible, moving the immovable, doing the impossible for the benefit of man by the power of God through the Holy spirit. This is one of God's ways of manifesting his 'ability to do all things' on earth.
The gift of working of miracles is the divine ability to work miracles, to manifest the power of God on earth, to solve various problems in unusual ways. One that possess this gift have access to the power of God.
"As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my Lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float." 2 Kings 6:5-6 NIV
A company of prophets were cutting trees near the river Jordan when an iron axehead from one of them fell into the river. How was the iron axehead recovered? Elisha cut a stick and threw it where the axehead fell, and lo and behold, the axehead floated. What a miracle! It is practically impossible for an axehead to float, but to our God, all things are possible.
"Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water” ; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine." John 2:7-9 NIV
From the passage above, we can see the manifestation of the gift of working of miracles. At first, when the wine finished, the people were struggling, doing all they can to proffer solution, wearing themselves out, but all to no avail, but when Jesus stepped into the situation, He proffer a solution in an unusually way (turning water to wine). what a miracle indeed!
The gifts of the Holy spirit are divided among believers by the Holy spirit as He wills for the edification and profit of the church (believers) and also to bring the lost souls back to Christ to the glory of God. Apostle Paul encouraged us to desire them, hunger and thirst for them, because they are all operational level of graces giving us access into the omnipotency of God.
The only way to be qualified for these gifts is to be a born again child of God, Jesus is a gift from God to the whole world but the Holy spirit is a gift only to the children of God. Do you desire these wonderful spiritual endowments? Accept Jesus as your Lord and personal saviour and He will make your life a sign and wonder to your generation.
