THE REVELATION OF THE SEVEN CHURCHES
In this new series, we will be looking at the revelation of the seven lamp stands given to Apostle John on the island of Patmos.
These seven lamp stands represent the seven churches in the province of Asia to which the Lord instruct him to write and send the messages to. The churches are as follows;
1. THE CHURCH IN EPHESUS
2. THE CHURCH IN SMYRNA
3. THE CHURCH IN PERGAMUM
4. THE CHURCH IN THYATIRA
5. THE CHURCH IN SARDIS
6. THE CHURCH IN PHILADELPHIA
7. THE CHURCH IN LAODICEA
In the Revelation, the Lord gave him different messages for each church based on their good works and shortcomings. In this series, we will be studying the messages directed to each church and we will be considering how it affects our today's Christianity. This messages are still very much relevant because today's believers belong to either of the categories illustrated in the messages designated for each church.
"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?" 1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV
As we know that the church isn't just the building (the house) but the believers. We are the temple of God, He doesn't stay in temples made by hands but the ones born of the spirit. So the seven churches that were in the province of Asia in those days are figures or an illustration of seven types of Christians we have in today's Christianity. So those messages are relevant in that we have to study them, compare with our lives, see where we belong and make the necessary adjustments or corrections as directed in the message.
All the messages are given in a constant format which include; acknowledging the Lord, commendations of the church (if any), shortcomings of the church (if any) and then what to do to make amends. What a complete message.
"Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. " Revelation 2:7 NIV
This is a constant expression that was present in all the messages and I believe this signifies a need for urgent attention. Its more or less an expression that denotes urgency, which need immediate intervention or consideration. As believers of this day, Let us be sensitive to what the spirit is saying, as we go through the mysteries embedded in this divine messages.
