THE MANTLE OF POWER PART 1

THE MANTLE OF POWER PART 1 (2 KINGS 2 : 1 - 22)

 This is a very common story in the bible but I want to share with you some deep revelations from the Holyspirit concerning this passage. From this passage, we will be looking at some outstanding attributes in Elisha that made him receive the MANTLE OF POWER.

·    ELISHA WAS PERSISTENTLY HUNGRY AND THIRSTY FOR IT

“Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel."

But Elisha said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel” 2 Kings 2:2 NIV

“Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here, Elisha; the LORD has sent me to Jericho." And he replied, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went to Jericho” 2 Kings 2:4 NIV

“ Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to the Jordan." And he replied, As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you" So the two of them walked on. 2 Kings 2:6 NIV

In the passages above, Elijah could’ve stayed back, but the hunger for what he wanted couldn’t let him, his desire to be greater than his master couldn’t let him. No wonder our master JESUS said,

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father” Jn. 14:12 KJV

Desire never to be an ordinary Christian, hunger and thirst for the supernatural, don’t let go until you begin to manifest it.

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” Matt. 5:6 KJV

·        HE RENT HIS OLD GARMENT

“And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces” 2 Kings 2:12 KJV

From this passage, we saw that Elisha didn’t just pick the mantle that fell from Elijah and put it on his old clothes, He first of all rent (i.e. tore) his old clothes into pieces, before he picked up the new mantle. For you to receive that mantle of power, you must rent the old garment. Everything that constitutes flesh in you must DIE completely. You must totally put off the old adamic/sinful nature  before you can put on the supernatural.

“If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work” 2Tim 2:21 KJV

·        HE ASKED FOR THE DOUBLE PORTION

“When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?" "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied” 2 Kings 2:9 NIV

Elijah made a request. He asked what he wanted, sometimes why we don’t receive is because we don’t ask, even when we ask, we ask amiss. We ask on the things that gives pleasure to the flesh but wont edify the spirit, Elisha would have asked to be connected to the king, or a miracle for riches with many servants, but he asked that which will benefit God

“………… ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts” James 4:2-3 KJV

If you could see JESUS today, what will be your request?

·        HE HAD FAITH IN WHAT HE RECEIVED

There was no alarm sounded, neither was there an earthquake or windblown to confirm Elisha received the MANTLE OF POWER, when Elisha picked up the mantle, he knew he had received what he asked.

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mark 9:23 KJV

If you have faith in what you have received from God, you believe in the supernatural life you have been reborn into and you believe in the unlimited power of God dwelling in you, then nothing shall be impossible for you to do.
