THE CONCEPT OF SIN

THE CONCEPT OF SIN

"In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.  One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.” 2 Samuel 11:1‭-‬5 NIV

Sin is always preceded by being at the wrong place or refusing to be at the right place at a particular time. From the passage above, David was supposed to be at the battlefield since he was the king, but instead, he sent his commander with the army of Israel while he remained in the palace. He became idle, so he decided to take a stroll on the roof of the palace where he saw Bathsheba, Uriah's wife bathing.

If David had led the army of Israel to war, he wouldn't have fallen a victim of such temptation to the extent of killing Uriah and taking his wife. Do you know that there are many mistake or sins you wouldn't have commited if you had been sensitive to the leading of the Holy spirit to be at the right place at the right time. Many believers today fall victim of the devil's temptation because they ignore the assembly of the brethren for another appointment.

"For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." Psalms 16:10 KJV

God love his own and will never allow them to see corruption, so he will led them away from temptation. But when a believer refuse to yield but rather go to where he is not supposed to go, or stayed back when he is supposed to go, then, the devil will come in.

Also from the passage, we can see that IDLENESS is an agent of sin. The king was idle and it led him into sin. Just like the saying, 'an idle mind is the devil's workshop'. For those struggling with one addiction or the other, the first enemy you need to deal with is idleness. Idleness always leads to a wandering heart which is the devil's perfect prey.

"Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also busybodies who talk nonsense, saying things they ought not to." 1 Timothy 5:13 NIV

An idle mind is an easy prey to sin because it is open for exploration. No wonder the bible says we should guard our heart with all diligence.

"In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In it he wrote, “Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.” 2 Samuel 11:14‭-‬15 NIV

After Bathsheba became pregnant, David tried to cover up his sins through several means but didn't work our, so instructed Uriah be set in the forefront of the hottest part of the battle to die, this brought the wrath of God upon him, and a curse was pronounced upon him and his house. David would've repented after the news of the pregnancy got to him, but he wanted to cover it up so no one will know, but can one cover up a thing from God.

"The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good." Proverbs 15:3 KJV

So many believers that made a mistake and tried to cover up their sins has been dealt with. Many Christian  sisters has lost their lives to abortion due to the shame an unwanted baby could bring, many has even lost their womb. Many Christians have used sin to cover up their sins, which has or will land them in bigger trouble. Why not confess them to God, He is merciful.

"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." Proverbs 28:13 KJV
