THE WORD OF GOD AS A MIRROR
THE WORD OF GOD AS A MIRROR
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like." James 1:22-24 NIV
Just like mirror reveals all the flaws, spots, blemish on our faces when we look into it, the word of God when we listen to or study it, it reveals all our flaws and shortcomings unto us. We see where we are missing it and it is a great expectation to make amends so as to attain the level of perfection. As we study the word, we begin to see God's expectations, instructions and promises for us, and as we begin to work in them, we purge ourselves of all worldliness, and sanctify ourselves unto perfection.
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." John 17:17 KJV
The word of God sanctifies, it purge us from anything that is not of God. The word of God can only do this if we yield to the word and allow it to transform us. The word of God is embedded with everything we need to live a successfully christian life, in short, it is the manual of the eternal life Jesus has given unto us. So when we study and we allow the word to transform us by doing what they word says, the word of God will begin to sanctify us until we become perfect just as our father in heaven is perfect.
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48 KJV
"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22 KJV
Brethren, being the hearer of the word alone and not a doer of what it says, is just like a man having looked into the mirror, seeing all spots, blemish, flaws on his face and decided not to do anything about it. As we study the word, the Holy spirit will open our eyes to see some changes we need to make in our lives, but when we ignore the Holyspirit and continue with our way of life, such life lack spiritual growth and becomes unproductive. Spiritual growth comes as a result of yielding to the leading of the Holy spirit.
Does it seem as if your spiritual life has been stagnant? does it seem as if your spiritual life isn't growing? does it seem as if there is no tangible change since you claim to be born again till now?
Submit yourself to the word of God and allow the word to transform you. The virtues of the spirit are only released to those that are willing and obedient.
.......GOD BLESS YOU
