LUST; THE MOTHER OF SIN
Lust is a strong ungodly desire or craving for something or an act in order to satisfy the fleshy desire.
It compels the victim to satisfy its own will not considering the harmful effect on the victim, other people or the immediate environment. Lust can be towards sex (or other sexually related activities), money, intoxication, success, luxuries, etc.
"Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." James 1:15 KJV
Lust is the precursor of every sin. When it is conceived in the heart, it gives birth to sin. Lust is a trick of the enemy to cloud the mind of people from its sanity, moral conscience and every form of godliness.
"One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 2 Samuel 11:2-3 NIV
Lust took hold of David at the sight of Bathsheba bathing, at that moment, his moral conscience and every virtue of godliness in him died because he allowed lust to take hold of his heart, in the act of satisfying the ungodly desire, he committed adultery with his faithful soldier's wife, killed the soldier and brought a curse upon his lineage. If only he had overcome that lust.
"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it." Genesis 3:6 NIV
From the passage, we could see lust operating in eve's mind. She lusted after the forbidden fruit, she realised it actually it looked nice and would taste sweet. Lust was at work, at that moment, she wasn't conscious of what disobeying God would bring upon her, but in the end, the eternal life was lost and it brought a curse upon humanity, thank God for our Lord Jesus Christ.
The bible said once lust is conceived, sin will be birthed. Jesus even said lust is a sin in itself.
"But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:28 NIV
Lust is a danger sign for a believer. That you are a believer doesn't mean it won't come, even the devil came to Jesus, so Lust will surely arise but we must rebuke it immediately. Also, we are to abstain from anywhere or anything that will make us vulnerable to Lust. Remember,
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23 NIV
