HOW TO STUDY THE WORD OF GOD (3)
In the last two lessons, I discussed three ways people study the word based on the mindset with which they approach the scripture which include STUDYING THROUGH, STUDYING TO KNOW AND STUDYING TO PREACH with their benefits and limitations. In this lesson, I will be discussing the forth way in which the word can be studied which is STUDYING TO LIVE.
4. STUDYING TO LIVE
"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path."
Psalms 119:105 NKJV
The word of God is a lamp to your feet, it will prevent you from dashing your foot against a stone, it will prevent you from falling into the pit of the enemy, it will prevent you from walking into the snares (traps) of the enemy. The devil came to Jesus with a snare but Jesus defeated him with the word.
The word of God is a light to your path. The word of God reveal the path of righteousness and godliness unto you, it reveals God's ordained path for your life unto you, without the word, the path will be unseen, without the word, you cannot see God's plan and purpose for your life. God's word is the revealer of God's plan and purpose for your life, it reveals unto you the God's ordained path for your life. The secret lies in studying the word of God to live.
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." Joshua 1:8 NKJV
Speak the word, meditate on the word and DO WHAT THE WORD SAYS then you will prosper in your ways and be successful in anything you do. When you study the word to live, you submit yourself completely to the will of God because the word of God is the will of God. Living according to the word of God is living according to the will of God. When you obey the word, you expose yourself to the power deeply rooted in the word of God, when you are a doer of the word, you open yourself to the omnipotent nature of God, when you study the word to live, you humble yourself making God your only hope, then God will entrust you with his great virtues and power.
"Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You." Psalms 119:11 NKJV
When you allow the word of God to be deeply rooted in your heart, when you allow the word of God to truly transform you, when you submit yourself completely to the word of God, then you will not stumble, you will not fall. The power and the consciousness of the word will give you an undying hatred for sin.
When you study, study to live, open your heart to the teachings of the spirit of God (because He is the author of the word), learn to make the word of God a daily guide, a manual you pattern your life after, and watch how the word will transform your life and make you a living testimony of the faithfulness of God. Don't just read through, don't just study to know, don't just study to preach, study to live also.
