THE GIFT OF INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES
This is the third gift of the Holy spirit that belong to the group of the vocal gifts. It is the divine ability to interpret the unknown tongue.
Generally, this gift is the ability to decode or interprets divine information as inspired by the Holy spirit. One who is engraced with this gift have the ability to interpret divine information like the unknown tongue and/or dreams, visions, revelations (which are always given in parts).
"I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified." 1 Corinthians 14:5 NIV
The purpose of this gift is for the edification of the body of Christ as a whole. Speaking in an unknown tongue only edifies the speaker but when one who can interprets such divine utterance is available, then the whole church will be edified. God can speak to the body of Christ through an unknown tongue and him who have the ability to interpret decodes the message and make the will of God know to the church and to the world at large.
"And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." Daniel 5:25-28 KJV
The word of God came to king Belshazzar through a hand writing on the wall, a message; "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN". No man could read it, neither could any man tell its meaning, but when Daniel was invited (Having this gift of intepretation of tongues working in him by the Spirit of God" he read it and gave the interpretation unto the king. God used Daniel to deliver the message unto the king by interpreting the unknown language written on the wall.
Daniel was a man that had this gift of interpretation of tongues actively working in Him. He was refers to as;
"a man who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods, ... was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems ...” Daniel 5:11-12 NIV
Through this gift, God's will, instructions, promises, intentions and desires are revealed unto men in order for them to obey and to walk in them at all times.
