THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The subject 'THE GIFTS OF THE HOLYSPIRIT' is one of the subjects that are not fully expanciated in the scripture? The knowledge acquired about them is either through their operations or through revelations from the Holy spirit to individuals. The Holy spirit Himself gives us this gifts and teaches us more about their dynamics.
"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12:7 NIV
The gifts of the Holy spirit is not given in order to showcase one's spirituality but to glorify God and for the profit of the body of Christ.
"But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will." 1 Corinthians 12:11 KJV
We should also consider why the Holy spirit distributes or divides the gifts among us and not just imparting all into one. This is to show the need for unity among the members of the body of Christ. It is a sign of dependency of one on another.
As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 1 Corinthians 12:20-21 NIV
That you have a gift of the Holy spirit does not make you greater, neither should it be a yardstick to be independent, the awesomeness of a ministration is not necessarily a measure of the spirituality of the vessel but the willingness of God to demonstrate His power, these gifts are signs of God's grace unto men, all glory must be to God.
God limits you so you that it is in partnership with other parts of the body of Christ that we see how complete the body is. When every part of the body comes together in unity, the fullness of Christ is revealed. JOSHUA SELMAN
We need ourselves to show forth the full glory of God. When we, operating in different gifts come together and work in unity, the fullness of Christ is revealed through us and the purpose of those gifts are manifested, the body of Christ profits from the operations and the gate of hell will never prevail over the church. But today, division has open the church up for the enemy to penetrate and many has fallen while so many have been wounded, we need ourselves to stand, we need ourselves to be strong.
"Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all." 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 KJV
There are diversities of gifts, and the mode of operation of these gifts are also numerous, but all is given by the same Holy spirit with the purpose of edifying the body of Christ and glorifying God before men. But for the sake of understanding and comprehension, Apostle Paul grouped the gifts into nine.
"For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:" 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 KJV
In subsequent lessons, we will be studying each of these gifts, their significance to the body of Christ, their mode of operations and some misconceptions that have been built about them in out time.
