THE GIFTS OF HEALING
Healing means a change in the state of health from a weak or diseased state to a perfect state. Healing can either be physical (i.e. medical, traditional or tradomedical which are limited in ability to heal) or divine (this is the healing that comes from God and it is unlimited). The state of health can be physical, mental, emotional or even spiritual which could be distressed or diseased, but once subjected to the power of God, Healing and perfect wholeness takes place.
The gift of healing is a divine ability to bring complete wholeness to those that are diseased or distressed. It is the divine ability to restore physical, emotional, mental or even spiritual health to a state of perfect wholeness. This gift is diverse in operation and manifestation. Though, divers in operation, but still given by the same spirit.
"And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them." Acts 19:11-12 KJV
Here, the manifestation of the gift of healing was through taking handkerchiefs and aprons that had made contact with the body of Paul to the sick, and once they made contact with them, the diseases departed from the sick.
The gift of heal is a type of miracle that is associated with changing the health state from the diseased state to a perfect state of health. .
"As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed." Acts 5:15-16 NIV
Here, we can see another dimension of operation of the gift of healing, people were healed as soon as the shadow of peter fell on them. This gift can also be manifest through spoken words as seen in the earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus;
“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed." John 4:50 NIV
At the spoken word of Jesus, the son of an officer that was sick at the point of death was healed. There are various dimensions of operations to this gift, but still, all is from the same Holy spirit.
