THE MYSTERY OF THE FIG TREE

THE MYSTERY OF THE FIG TREE

Today's message is going to open our eyes to why  Jesus cursed a fig tree before his disciple. Jesus knew all He did will be written and passed unto the generations to come, so all His actions were messages for the generations then and the once to come. So the action of Jesus in that story has a message for believers which we are going to explore in this lesson but first, let us learn something about fig trees.

Fig trees are flowering plant which produce much leaves, flowers and large edible fruits. The major value of a fig tree is its incredible ability to produce fruits. This is its own natural endowment because everything it need to produce fruits have been deposited in it by the creator.

“Next, the trees said to the fig tree, ‘Come and be our king.’  “But the fig tree replied, ‘Should I give up my fruit, so good and sweet, to hold sway over the trees?’ Judges 9:10‭-‬11 NIV

In the analogy of the trees given by Jotham, the other trees requested for the fig tree to be king over them, but it rejected stating it cannot forsake its ability to produce good and sweet fruits for men in order to rule over other trees. Its pride is in its ability to bear good and sweet fruits, that is its purpose, that is its creator's expectation for it, to produce sweet fruits in large quantity. God had blessed it with EVERYTHING it needed to produce fruit. It was built to bear fruits in season and out of season.

"Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.  Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!” Mark 11:14‭, ‬21 NIV

Even though it was not the season for figs, as far as it had leaves on it, then it has the ability to produce fruits. But when Jesus (the creator of all) got to the fig tree hoping to find fruits on it, He found none, since it wasn't serving its purpose, since it wasn't living up to expectation, since it wasn't doing the will of its creator, then of what use is it being alive. Then Jesus cursed the fig tree and it withered and died off.

As believers, God has imparted into us everything we need to bear fruits for him, He has endowed us with divine virtues, gifts, talents and abilities to win souls for Him. ARE YOU LIVING UP TO EXPECTATION? will He find fruits in you when He decides to check you up? Are you fulfilling the purpose of your calling? One of the last words of Jesus before His ascension into heaven was for us to GO INTO THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL, have you been faithful with that? Are you utilizing your full potential for Him?

"Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." John 15:2 KJV

Many believers have falling sick, many have died, for this reason, some termed God to be uncaring and unfaithful. But the question is, are you living according to God's divine mandate? Are you relevant to His work in this perilous time? Have you buried your talent or you have grown and doubled them? ARE YOU BEARING FRUITS FOR JESUS? will you go and meet Him empty handed when He comes back?

                     ...........GOD BLESS YOU
