THE GREAT SHEPHERD PART 2

THE GREAT SHEPHERD

From the previous lesson, we looked at the sheep as an ideal representation of stewardship and discipleship. In this lesson, we will be looking at the roles of the shepherd towards his sheep as stated in Psalms 23.

-HE PROVIDES FOR THE SHEEP:

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures..." Psalms 23:1‭-‬2 KJV

From the above passage, it was stated that a shepherd provides for his sheep. As far as the shepherd is available, the sheep never lack, He takes them to the green pasture. Same way our Lord provides for His own, as far as they stick with Him, they shall not lack. He makes His own dwell in green pastures, in abundance of good things, He leads His own to the land flowing with good things.

"The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing." Psalm 34:10 NIV

-HE REFRESHES THE SHEEP:

" ... he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul ..." Psalms 23:2‭-‬3 KJV

From time to time, the shepherd take his flock to the river, so they can drink water and be refreshed from tiredness and Weariness, so that their strength can be restored. So also our Lord Jesus Christ refreshes us from time to time by giving us the river of life to drink, so we can be refreshed. He comforts us with the Holy spirit so as to restored our strength whenever we are weary or tired. He feeds us with the word so we can draw strength from the word. The world indeed is full of discouragement, battles, struggles, trials, temptations, worries, even challenges, but as many that have the Lord as their shepherd, they will always be refreshed and have their strength renewed.

"Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength ..."Isaiah 40:30‭-‬31 KJV

-HE TEACHES AND TRAINS THE SHEEP:

" ... he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." Psalms 23:3 KJV

I saw a documentary where several people were making signs and sounds to a flock of sheep but the sheep weren't making any response, but immediately the shepherd called unto them, the gathered and ran towards the shepherd, they recognized the voice of their shepherd. But that didn't just start in a day, the shepherd had train the flock to recognise and obey his voice. The same way our Lord Jesus teaches and trains us the path of righteousness. Through the Holy spirit, He opens our eyes to His principles and revelations in His word so we can hear Him and recognize Him whenever He speaks. The Lord will never say anything contrary to His word, He teaches and expects us to follow His teachings.

"To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples." John 8:31 NIV
