TO THE CHURCH IN PERGAMUM
“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword." Revelation 2:12 NIV
Even from the introduction, the Lord reveal the seriousness of the message and the need to take heed quickly. The Lord introduce himself to the church in Pergamum as HIM WHO HAS THE SHARP, DOUBLE-EGDE SWORD. That introduction shows his readiness to fight the stone-hearted, to separate the goats from the sheep and to dismantle the wicked with his sword. This introduction show an urgency to consider the message and make a change as quickly as possible in order to escape the wrath and judgement to come.
"Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans." Revelation 2:14-15 NIV
The city of Pergamum was refers to the dwelling place of Satan in Rev. 2:13 because it was a dwelling place for sexual immorality and idolatry. The teaching of the Nicolaitans is such which proves that fornication is not a sin when connected with religious rites, it also encourages cult and ritual prostitution (employing prostitutes in shrines, temples and palaces), this was the normal practice in the city. This heretic doctrine was being introduced into the church by some people, and as at that time was already gaining grounds in the church.
Same way in the body of Christ today, sexual immoralities have crept into many lives, that which used to be an abomination has now become a norm. Many who profess to be of God are wasting away in fornication, adultery, masturbation, pornography and various sexual perversions. Idolatry has become the order of the day. They give more reverence to futile and vain things than God, the creator of all things. Even in churches, people are more eager to showcase their clothes, jewelries, electronic gadgets, wealth in church than to showcase God. Many are more eager to be celebrated and glorified rather than God being glorified. The norms of this day has become a complete opposite to the apostolic times when people would let go of their wealth in order to seek God.
"Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it." Revelation 2:16-17 NIV
The Lord Jesus is calling unto you, REPENT! so you won't be a victim of the wrath to come. Come out from among the ungodly, come out from among the seducers and whoremongers, come out from among the vain-minded, come out from among the lustful and be separated unto God. We all desire the hidden manna, we all desire the deep secrets of God, the deep mysteries of God are only for the pure. TOMORROW MAY BE TO LATE, JESUS IS CALLING, HIS HANDS ARE WIDELY OPEN TO RECEIVE YOU.
